We are so excited to present Aikya, a Bharata Natyam program to benefit a great cause. We have been dancing for fifteen years, and ever since our Arangetram (solo debut) in 2002, we have been eager to do another full-length duet performance.
Aikya, meaning “unity” or “togetherness” combines our identity as sisters with our shared passion for dance.
We chose to have the proceeds of our March 27th program to benefit Vasavya Mahila Mandali (VMM), a non-profit organization based in Andhra Pradesh , India , with which Reema worked while pursuing her Masters in Public Health. VMM is dedicated to empowering poor women and children in the state of Andhra Pradesh by providing vocational training, income generation, educational sponsorship, and shelters for battered women and street children. VMM also works to provide services to families affected by HIV/AIDS, with a focus on children and women who are affected.
Our goal through this dance performance is to raise $15,000 to fund a village benefiting children who have been orphaned by AIDS. Your support and donation is paramount in helping women and children who need our help.
Please join us on March 27, 2011 to experience Aikya in Bakersfield , California .
